Living Unlimited is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We serve a community that includes blind and low-vision users, Deaf and hard-of-hearing users, users with motor disabilities, and users with cognitive disabilities. Accessibility is not an afterthought here, it is a core part of how we build and maintain this website.

Our Standard

We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA across all pages and content on this website. These guidelines are developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and represent the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility.

Measures We Have Taken

  • Colour contrast: Our colour palette meets or exceeds the WCAG 2.2 AA minimums (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text and UI components). Every inline colour pair on the home page was recalculated on 28 July 2026 and all passed: our deep teal on white and white on deep teal both measure 6.25:1, and body text on white measures 16.1:1. Individually styled elements are checked by calculation as we find them, rather than assumed safe because a colour passes elsewhere.
  • Keyboard navigation: All functionality is accessible using a keyboard alone; no mouse is required
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus outlines are present on all interactive elements throughout the site (WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible)
  • Link text: All links use descriptive text that makes sense out of context; links are underlined for visual clarity (WCAG 1.4.1)
  • Images: All meaningful images include descriptive alt text; decorative images are marked as such
  • Headings: Pages use a logical heading hierarchy (H1 to H2 to H3) to support screen reader navigation
  • Text sizing and reflow: Text can be resized to 200% without loss of content; pages reflow at 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling (WCAG 1.4.10)
  • Language: The primary language of each page is identified in the HTML
  • Skip link: A “skip to main content” link is provided for keyboard and screen reader users
  • Forms: All form fields have associated labels; error messages are descriptive and accessible

How and when these claims were verified

Machine-verified 28 July 2026 against the live site. The following were tested automatically and passed: the page language is declared in the HTML (en-CA); a “Skip to content” link is present as the first focusable element in the page body; each page uses a single H1 with no skipped heading levels; every image carries an alt attribute, with decorative images marked as such; every visible form field has a programmatic label; and text and interface colours meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast, verified by calculation rather than by eye.

Not yet independently verified. Some commitments on this page cannot be confirmed by automated inspection and require manual and assistive-technology testing: full keyboard operability of every function, focus indicator visibility, resize to 200 per cent, reflow at 400 per cent zoom, screen reader compatibility, and the quality (as opposed to the presence) of alt text and link text. We describe these as our standard and our intent. We will publish the date and method of a manual audit when one is completed.

If you find something on this site that does not meet the standard described here, please tell us. A report from a person using the site is worth more than any automated check.

Known Limitations

We are continuously working to improve accessibility. Some areas we are actively working to improve include:

  • Older embedded content (such as third-party videos) may not fully meet our accessibility standards, we are transitioning all video content to include captions
  • Some complex data tables in older articles may not yet have full accessibility markup, we are reviewing and updating these

Technical Approach

This website is built on WordPress using the Kadence theme, with additional accessibility enhancements including custom CSS for focus indicators and high-contrast interactive states. We periodically audit our content using automated tools and manual testing with assistive technology.

Canadian accessibility frameworks

Our technical baseline is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. We also align our approach with the following Canadian frameworks:

  • Accessible Canada Act (ACA), the federal accessibility law that establishes accessibility planning, progress reporting, and complaint mechanisms.
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), which sets accessibility standards for organizations operating in Ontario.
  • CAN-ASC-6.2:2025, Canada’s standard for accessibility in artificial intelligence (relevant to any AI-generated or AI-assisted features on this site).
  • CAN-ASC-3.1:2025, Canada’s plain language standard for accessible communication.

Testing and audit methodology

We test our accessibility through a combination of automated and manual methods:

  • Automated: Accessibility Checker plugin on every page, periodic Lighthouse audits, regular HTML validation.
  • Manual screen reader testing: NVDA on Firefox, VoiceOver on Safari, JAWS on Chrome.
  • Keyboard-only testing: All interactive flows verified without a mouse.
  • Zoom testing: Pages tested at 200% and 400% browser zoom.

Last comprehensive audit: June 2026. We re-audit after every major template or theme update.

Remediation timeline

We commit to the following targets for the known limitations listed above:

  • All embedded videos captioned by 31 December 2026.
  • All data tables in older articles updated to full WCAG markup by 31 March 2027.
